Thoughtful design is more about improving peoples lives rather than making spaces look pretty.

Our surroundings around us affects our mood, productivity, energy levels and mindset. Creating a beautiful space to call home is not only about impressing your guests and encompassing yourself with pretty objects. It is about creating a space where you feel relaxed, comfortable, organized and at peace.

The decisions that you make when choosing how your home will look have a documented effect on your emotions and perceptions.

For example, color choices effect our mood and is the main component of how we experience the world around us.

  • Red symbolizes power and passion. It can warm up a space and make it feel more intimate.
  • Orange is a jolt of energy. Its optimistic and uplifting, rejuvenating our spirit.
  • Yellow is associated with happiness and creativity. It stimulates mental process and nervous system to activate memory and entourages communication.
  • Green is known for its soothing qualities, balance and harmony.
  • Blue perpetuates feeling , calm and freshness. It reduces stress, creating a sense of calmness, relaxation and order.
  • Purple signifies royalty and luxury. It relates to the imagination and spirituality, allowing us to get in touch with our deeper thoughts.
  • Grays give a sense of relaxation and serenity. It lends interiors an elegant formality that is subtle without being overly conservative.
  • Brown like green give a relaxing touch. Supplies a sense of wholesomeness, it is our color of the earth and is associated with all things natural and organic.
  • Black is the color of sophistication and power. Its mysterious by evoking a sense of potential and possibility.
  • White relates a sense of cleanliness and purity. Its reflective, awakening openness, growth and creativity.

Remember, when selecting which color to include in your interiors, three picks are better than one. Choose neutral for the largest element like walls and flooring.

A calmer color for furniture and case-goods. Then pick a third more dramatic color to pop in your statement accessories and decor.

Symmetry emulates the human form, so we are inherently comfortable in a balanced setting.

Our brains love symmetry and that long history is an integral part of design for ages. It evokes feelings of safety, comfort and familiarity.

Have you given a thought to why that ability seems to come to us so instinctively , even though we may not be professional interior designers?

It all has to do with symmetry, or a sense of balance, that has been achieved within a space.
Symmetrical, even when its too slight to be acknowledged at a  first glimpse. All of us are drawn to balanced images and tend to think them more aesthetically pleasing than their erratic counter parts.

Since this style of balance is so familiar in our lives, it is simple for our brains to process it. Symmetrical interiors are often perceived as more restful and tranquil than their artistically asymmetrical counterparts because we don’t have to work as hard to figure out the use and flow of the space.

Light has an outstanding effect on human beings. For example, if a room is too dark or excessively light, our mood is very down. But just the right amount of light, the mood improves. We are surrounded with interior design and cannot escape from its influence. Creating a mood of intimacy, relaxing or comfort can be accomplished with using well-balanced light.

The way light penetrates a room, the colors we choose for our floors and walls, and even the shape and texture of our furniture and home decorations all work together to impact how we feel and how we function, both consciously and subconsciously.

People are different individuals and their personalities are reflected in their homes. Cluttered surroundings lack functionality , the space flow is disrupted therefore effecting our mood. One feels mentally exhausted without knowing the cause.

The constant fight with over sized furniture and clutter makes us despondent. Our moods are effected in a positive  or negative way.

What we need to understand is that there are numerous pieces that need to align and fit well in order to achieve domestic bliss.

Additionally, well designed interiors leads to other positive changes such as career opportunities, family well being and love life. Our daily surroundings influence our sense of well being and peace of mind.

After-all, its your life and your space that you live in every day . You deserve a home that is good for you, body and soul.

While we may not be able to design spaces that aesthetically please the masses, we can certainly create spaces that consciously utilize aesthetic elements to inspire more meaningful, satisfying and joyful experiences.
